THE OSCARS AND HOLLYWOOD’S OBSESSION WITH THE SUN
Millions across the US, and many more around the world staying up, are tuned in to watch the big screen’s modern Gods celebrate each other and reassert their superiority over the mere audience.
But how many of those watching are consciously counting the number of references to the Sun, our galaxy’s tour de force and life-giving star? Unconsciously, however, everyone will be taking in the messages that the Hollywood’s Elite have designed the whole ceremony around.
The messages are:
1) We are your Gods, you must worship, idolised and obsess over us.
2) You are a mass collective, influenced by our actions. There is not one individual amongst you who is as important as the stars you are watching. Therefore, go along with the herd at the bottom of the hierarchy.
3) We are the top of the hierarchy, and closer to the Sun that you will ever be.
Now this may seem like similar accusations to those in conspiracy theories of the New World Order, Sun Worshipping and FreeMasons that can found on crackpot blogs and twitter accounts across the net. Indeed, the heirachy statement would even suggest a cap-stone pyramid. But lets break this down to dismiss entertaining detective-work and just look at the real connections. Whether they are ‘evil’ or ‘conspiracies’ is for others to get themselves in a twist over.
New World Order – There is nothing NEW about the WORLD ORDER. The Word Order is, simply put, the controlling Elite who run each nation. The United States of America is the most powerful nation in the world, and so it fits that the Elite there are the most powerful.
Aside from the Banks, the Senate, the Pentagon, and the top echelon who we will never know about, there are also the Elite of the Entertainment business. Hollywood’s Golden Age shaped the US undeniably in terms of the ‘American Dream’, in terms of morals and values and national pride, in terms of racism and politics and family structure and capatilism, and most importantly in terms of hierarchy.
What better way to brainwash the masses, than by ‘ushering’ them into a darkened room, where symbols and words and visual connections and sounds can be fed straight into their unconscious, whilst the conscious is kept busy with multiple tales based on the Hero’s Journey ? (Joseph Campbell’s assertion that all great stories follow the same structure which people naturally gravitate towards). Genius.
Fast forward decades, and Hollywood has lost some of its shine and some of its Gods have fallen. But for every star that falters, another one is hoisted up into place, and so there are always stars for people to idolise, and for the messages to be translated through.
This all makes perfect sense and runs like a well oiled machine. But a fascinating question is, why the obession with the Sun, the biggest star?
The origin of Horus, the Egyptian Sun God is held in mystery, because of other very similar Sun Gods in distant parts of the world where communication wasn’t possible during times of relativily limited geographic mobility. These other Sun Gods both sound and are depicted similarly to Horus.
There is Ashur, a Sumerian Sky God, the head deity of the Assyrian pantheon. The depiction of Ashur is of a man riding with a winged Sun disc. It is interesting, when looking at the figure of Osiris, the original Greek name of the God of the Afterlife. The Egyptian translation of Osiris is Ausar, which when spoken is pronounced similarly to Ashur.
Another Assyrian God is Nusku, or Nisroch, who was the God of Fire and the Sun. He also bears an uncanny resemblance to Horus, as a muscular man with the wings and head of an eagly. There are many other relations to other Sun Gods in various myths and beliefs, utilising similar sounding names and images of wings and sun discs.
So how does this all lead to the Academy Awards and Hollywood? Well lets take a look at what all the stars, the Hollywood Elite, will be seeing outside and inside the Kodak theatre, and what the masses will be shown glimpses of during the media coverage, that will bury deep into their unconscious.
The rear entrance is a huge arch, a recreation of the Babylon Gate from D.W.Griffiths’s Intolerance. Notice Ashur on the left and the eagle-headed Nusku, or Nisroch, on the right. If one combined the qualities of each, you would have Horus.
This is an age old Masonic tracing board. Now scan the stage of the 71st Oscars below. Notice the checker board floor, a columned arch and a solar object as the background inside the arch. The lines are the Sun rays, shining down on the stars that will take to the stage.
So the set designers took some inspiration, and on the street, there is a cheesy oversized, Egyptian fake monument? This is nothing new, Vegas has a fake pyramid and a fake Statue of Liberty right?
Ok, so now look inside the Kodak Theatre. The entire design is a shower of Sun motifs, with a large Sun disc on the ceiling, multiple Sun spotlights, all drenched in a red and gold colour scheme.
On this stage inside the Kodak Theatre, the check board makes another return on the curtains, while above it is a symphony of gold Suns, all under another columned gold archway.

Below we are reminded of the Oscar, the golden statue of an unknown figure with his arms crossed and feet stood together. Bears a striking remsemblance to the statues of Osiris, Horus’s father, and Ptah, the God of craftsmen.
The name Oscar is even mysterious, with no one explanation reining supreme amongst the media. Interesting how Oscar resembles Osiris and sounds like Aushur.
So, we’ve had some fun picking out the symbols and references to Sun Gods in the Academy Awards and Hollywood’s artwork. But lets bring this back now to the role of Hollywood in the present and the relationship of movies and the movie going public.
It is fair to say there are generally two branches within the Hollywood upper tier. There are the blockbuster movies; fantastical experiences that aim to viscerally entertain us but hold no real ambitions of caressing the soul or questioning the human spirit. Then there are those movies that, while still presenting Hollywood’s new Gods, do place more emphasis on spiritual awareness, the human condition, historical events with a propaganda twist and dramatic stories that aim to be life-changing for the audience, or life-affirming. These are the movies that are rewarded and spotlighted in the Academy Awards, not the blockbusters.
There seems to be a divide then in Hollywood, between the old Elite and the new Elite. There is a orchestra of conspiracy theories discussing the decline of the Freemasons and the ‘Old World Order’ and banding such concepts about as the ‘New World Order’. Considering such conspiracies with a pinch of salt, perhaps the Entertainment industry is one of the battle grounds.
Worth noting, as a last comment on their obsession with Sun worship. What is the other major Hollywood awards ceremony called? The Golden Globes.
